'Jelly' hd video, 16:9

A short film featuring a beautiful glass jelly mould I recently bought and golden syrup. Still in the process of editing this video to put it on vimeo, so for now here is a still.

Bitter Sweet

A chocolate fountain and fairy liquid. The fairy liquid became almost 'whipped' and was aerated until it became a frothy paste. 


I built the machine into a plinthe to conceal what it actually was. To the viewer it appeared a strange, moving, bubbling unidentifiable almost life-like creature, constantly changing form and growing. 


The menthol scent also filled the atmosphere around it, which added to the sensuous nature of it.

I met Phil through friends at a private view, and was really excited when he saw my work, and offered to be a model for a syrup pour. We have done some filming together now, and I am in the editing process. But it's great that he is interested in what I've been doing, and working with him was a great opportunity for me, aswell as being really fun. Images to follow soon.

Black Treacle Experiment

Andrea and I have decided to do come film work together, bringing together our performative ideas', and my use of food. We have so far done one day of filming, and are planning to re-film. Unfortunately, all I have so far is this photograph (Andrea has all the footage on her computer), but I will get the footage and stills soon and upload them. It's interesting to work with someone else, and I sort of feel it takes the pressure off a bit. The films we are making are much more 'fun' than my syrup films, and don't require as much precision and technique, so we were able to relax and just experiment with different ideas:

Collaboration with Andrea Macario

Andrea and I were in a group show together, during which some interest conversations arose about the relationship between our work, as both of us deal with similar subject matters of female objectivity. Here we have just projected our videos on top of each other, which was quite bizarre:

For the 2nd Round of filming, we did for different takes. The first 3 were unsuccessful, the syrup with going on her face too fast, or missing her head entirely. The final round of filming went brilliantly, and I think it was a good decision to scrape Jess's hair back. Here are Stills from it: 

Billboards...

I am thinking about different ways of showing my film work. Because it has strong links to advertising, I'm considering a billboard-type structure, double sided, with my videos projected onto each side. Whatever structure style I choose/design, I know I want it to be large scale.

Just a quick experiment using Liquid glucose and food dye....not quite sure where this is going now, but it looks pretty cool!

On the whole, the show went reasonably smoothly, if a little rushed towards the end due to a projector bulb going half an hour before it opened. But we were all pleased with the final show and the Private View was successful. I was certainly pleased with my piece 'Glaze', which was projected onto a large Billboard-type structure, as seen in these photos. Andrea Macario's video was projected on the other side of the structure, creating a double sided screen. We chose to dim the lights in the main space, and have spotlights illuminating the other sculptures. Due to this my work became very cinematic and had more impact, and it interested me that viewers of the show seemed to talk in very hushed tones whilst watching the silent video work.
